Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Friday, May 28, 2010

May your weekend be filled with loved ones, food, laughter, and remembrance of those that died in military service.
True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost. - Arthur Ashe

My Second Office

Thursday, May 27, 2010

I am at my second office today, Starbucks, as my car is sick and in the shop. I walked over a mile to get to my "office" today, in the heat, with backpack on. I am feeling quite accomplished. I love being around people, so being alone in the house, working, just wasn't cutting it. It's funny though because while I love the atmosphere, sounds, and smells of this wonderful coffee establishment, I am not a coffee drinker. I drink tea. Black iced tea to be exact, sweetened. Every time. Sometimes I'll throw in a Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake. For my fellow sweet tooth.

Isn't this guy's art just fantastic? It's coffee on paper.

Judging a Person By Their Bookshelf

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

This creative gal paints portraits of people's book collections because she says, "you can learn a lot by their grouped covers." I would have to agree with that statement. I'm not a fiction reader, so my shelf is currently filled with books about factual stuff that deals with things on a relational, social or spiritual level and that's what interests me most.

What does your book collection look like?

Destination: Relaxation

Sun, cloudless skies, slight breeze, favorite drink in hand, delightful reading material, a take-your-breath-away view like this or this, no worries, and one of the following by Anthro and I'm feeling alright ;)

Are You Kidding Me?

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

"Why aren’t we ranking higher on Google? Our name starts with A, and this other company only starts with H!"

Designer: ”I will create a login box on your website. Once someone registers and logs in, the website will recognize who the user is and provide relevant content.”

Client: ”That sounds great. However, instead of a login box I’d like to use biometrics to identify the user.”

Designer: ”Not sure what you mean.”

Client: ”When someone visits the website, I want them to be able to put their hand on the monitor. The monitor will then scan their hand to confirm who they are. I think that would be a lot more engaging. How much extra would that functionality cost?”

Designer: ”Several hundred million dollars.”

Client: Why are you being a wiseass? Can you do it or not?

Designer: ”No. Sorry. That’s a little too advanced.”

Client: ”Fine. I’ll try another web designer.”

"Lime Green instead of regular. As ninja turtle bright as possible."

Client: ”So I just wrote my first post on the blog you made for us. Can you publish it to all RSS feeds?”

Designer: ”Do you mean publish it to your RSS feed? Because that happens automatically.”

Client: ”No, I mean ALL RSS feeds. Like every one on the internet.”

Designer: ”That’s not possible.”

Client: ”Yes it is, I read an article about how RSS is the equivalent of newspapers on the internet, so if I post something everyone on the internet should see it, just like everyone reading a newspaper would see the front page.”

Designer: ”Er… that’s not really true, that’s not how RSS works.”

Client: ”Well then this whole “blog” thing isn’t what I paid you to do, then, is it?”

[Yep, these are actual conversations between designers and their clients. Want more?]

Sock Crazy

Thursday, May 20, 2010

The past fella in my life used to make silly fun of me because I insisted (and still do) on having a "sock" for the accessories in my purse. That includes a phone sock, sunglasses sock, business card/gift card sock, and on some occasions, a jewelry sock. So I like to keep my things protected... and organized... not a big deal.

And so I present to you a unique "sock" that caught my eye today. I think it's cute! What do you think?

Live It Forward

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

This print was submitted into the Positive Poster Competition. This quote comes from the famed Danish philosopher & theologian, Søren Kierkegaard. This statement truly grasps the idea of living radically in the present. Our goal must not be to dwell in the past, but to learn from it, and move forward gaining a better sense of self in the process that leads to a brighter future.

“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”

I Believe

I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.

Pancake Art

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

I spotted this amazing site via a posting on Twitter... gosh, I love social media! And I LOVE me some pancakes!!! Oh yes, Bisquick mix is the best with Aunt Jemima Butter Lite Syrup... yum! When I was little... ok, well into my teens, my family had the tradition of making pancakes every Saturday morning. I haven't quite made the time to do that for myself now that I'm living away from home, but my craving still stands strong. However, my skills only consist of creating round pancakes. My dad would create fun ones with hearts, letters, etc, but this guy, Jim, takes it to a whole other level. I. am. amazed.

Three Little Birds

"Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!"

Rise up this mornin',
Smiled with the risin' sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin', ("This is my message to you-ou-ou:")

Singin': "Don't worry 'bout a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."
Singin': "Don't worry (don't worry) 'bout a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!"

Rise up this mornin',
Smiled with the risin' sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin', "This is my message to you-ou-ou:"

Singin': "Don't worry about a thing, worry about a thing, oh!
Every little thing gonna be all right. Don't worry!"
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing" - I won't worry!
"'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."

High Heeled Love

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Couple notes to make on this post: If I...
a) wore heels this tall (w/o fear of tripping or walking awkwardly)
b) had a $1,000 to spare
c) had the perfect outfit to wear with them (pretty sure I could come up with something though, right?)

...

I would totally get these!
